If you're in Calgary and looking for a good LFS, I certainly suggest
Elite Aquatic
#8, 7400 Macleod Trail S.
I know it is a fairly new store, opened in Oct 06. Today I made my first trip down to the store.
Very Impressive ! Well thought out layout, very clean and healthy looking tanks, great looking saltwater layout and some interesting livestock.
The owner, Colby, was very friendly and knowledgeable.
For all the bad we hear about fish stores, I thought I'd add a little good.
The store is on the other end of the city from me, but it was worth the trip, I'll be a regular client !

That's always great to hear! You should invite him to the forum - we can always use more knowledge. If he does shipping I can add him to our Online Merchants list.

Pardon my interruption but I just have to comment. This is exactly one of the things that we want to accomplish here at CAC... connections! Blaine found this great lfs and recommends it. Those members in his area now know they have another great source for lfs and supplies.
OK folks, let's get this happening all across Canada  That way, too, when we travel, we'll know what to check out when we're in town. !

Let's go tomorrow - he has nice Swordtails. Pick me up at eight and don't be late.

Just as soon as I can talk Jay into footing the bill for the trip. What are friends for Jay? In fact, you don't even need me - just go pick them up for me like a dear.
<Waits for Jay to remind her that he's nice, not a fool, and there's a big difference between the two.>

Hey! I take a nap and you start plotting how to get me to drive all the way to Calgary. (Blaine, you're not helping by encouraging her:FishOnDaHead: )
And Melody, I may be a fool... just not THAT big of one! ... unless, of course, you're footing the gas bill for the trip.

:nah: I'd fly, since I do so free. I do plan to scoot over there one of these days & do a shopping tour, but one should probably have a lot of money to waste before doing so.:wideeyed:

If you fly for free, then I'm coming too. You just need a really big suitcase (one that I can fit in so I can fly free too. )

I love Elite. Colby rocks. He's helped me figure out a number of issues with my new SW tank. Most of all, he's honest! Several times he's advised me to go with less expensive options than what I had been considering. His livestock are healthy, and he has a ton of neat nano-tanks set up around the store to check out. He loves unusual/oddball fish and he's always willing to show off the latest arrivals. It's always a pleasure to stop in.

Thanks for adding your comments. Certainly sounds like the ideal store owner! Smart businessman too - loyal, trusting customers are worth much more in the long run and you sleep better at night.
Methinks you'll have to talk him into taking the store online - here's my card. ;)

Colby might sign up here, he has a membership on AlbertaAquatica... but I wouldn't expect to see him often. He works seven days a week (only one employee, and that's to help out on Saturdays). :err: Not a whole lot of leftover time to spend online.

An unfortunate part of being an entrepreneur. Maybe once he gets the store established, he'll have more time.

There was some amazing saltwater creatures there, slugs and snails and some of the most beautiful fishies.
There was some nice freshwater as well, there were some cool flower shrimp, they have webbed hands instead of claws.
When I have some more room or another tank....

Thanks for adding your experience Krista. I'm almost glad he's not here - I'm selective in my fave fish stores, yet the few there is manage to keep me broke with no problem.

Stopped in at Elite again this morning. Looking good !
Ended up spending way to much time there  .
Dropped off a few snails and Hets for Colby to add to his 'No other store in town has these' livestock collection. ;)
So if your looking for any of Blaine's Cana snails, go see Colby !

If nothing else, you should tell him to join and PM me his details regarding the purchase of privately bred Livestock, so I can add it to the Merchants section. Its free!
I am definitly going to check out that store and your fishroom when I visit there one of these days.
Blaine's Cana snails are GORGEOUS, by the way....
