I have this beautiful female Green Sailfin Lyretail Molly (which you've all see photos of in the photo section). She already has produced some beautiful fry, is expecting again, but IMO she is a slow learner.:twitcy: She has, on a number of occasions, injured herself (scraped scales off on her back just ahead of her dorsal fin), each time healing well and extremely quickly has not been adversely affected. (Her behavior shows no indication that this bothers her in any way). I just can't figure out how she injures herself (and in the same location repeatedly.) She must be doing it the same way each time but not one other fish in the tank ever shows any sign of injury. I'm baffled. I cannot figure 'where or how' she's doing this. And one would think she'd learn after a while... :nah: before I know it she appears again, with scales missing.:( The only sharp thing in the tank is some tufa rock which has been there since I set it up and as I said, no one else has ever shown any signs of injury. I'm perplexed and just worried that maybe the next injury might not heal as well.

(At his point I want to take her out of the tank & give her a good talking to! )

Are you sure its not an ulcer of some sort? Sometimes they can come & go?

No point in giving a Molly a lecture, I've done it, with my Black Mollies .
3 females, 1 male and not one single fry ! I even picked ones that looked already pregnant.

Apparantly they are just fat. I lecture them daily, no effect.

I think they're munching - its the only explanation.

None are thinner though ........

Heavily planted tank ........

And a daily lecture on top of that !

Then my expert opinion is that they're sulking. What did you do? Are you being judgemental? Perhaps a little short with them? Forget an anniversary?

You do realize that if you throw them in my box, I'd wake up to hundreds of fry the next morning? Evil fishies!

What would an ulcer look like? This is roughly in the same spot each time. It is rather like a long oval (& totally white-all scales missing). I tried to get a picture of it tonight (almost healed after 2 days) and this is what it looks like now (that white line on top). It was initially a little longer and wider of course.
Sorry, It's not a good picture as she was getting very upset with me for taking a dozen pictures of her (trying to get her in a position where it would show) and once again was trying to dash away. Also the glass is dirty as I haven't cleaned it since I did a water change earlier.

Very odd. I'd lean towards something recurring before injury, but of course, that's a guess too. I'm guessing that because its in such an odd place and always the same area. Maybe its just a sensitive spot from an original injury and is easily irritated or infected. Got me on that one!

She heals from it amazingly quickly too. If it happens again (which I hope it doesn't), I'll try to get a good picture of it... which might help to ID the problem. Thanks for trying.
