so i had some of those cheapo plastic plants lying around and i decided to use them in my 10gal guppy tank, i was in the middle of doing a water change and noticed that one of my fish was stuck in a plant. i stopped pouring the water in and tried to shoo her out of the way, as i was doing this i noticed that she was upside down, upon closer inspection i noticed that the grass looking piece of the plastic plant had somehow gotten lodged through her gill and out her mouth about 4 inches. i carefully slid her off the plastic plant skewer of death, she is now swimming around with her mouth stuck wide open and some blood on her gills. it has been a couple of days but hopefully she will make a full recovery.

long story short, real plants are better in more ways than you can count!!

Wow hope she makes it. That must have been quite the experience trying to get her free.

Wow that's just crazy!
You'd wonder how that happened?

I'm guessing that getting skewered by a plant (or something else) is just one of those rare random occurances that happens (in tanks or even in the wild... of course, we only witness it if it happens in the wild). Rather like some of the dumb things we humans do and subsequently end up paying the price. I guess it's often simply about timing... wrong place, wrong move, wrong time.

How's the fish doing?

she seems to be doing great her mouth is back to normal and she is eating again. however the next morning i found my only lyretail male dead in the same plant, i have no idea what is going on but needless to say i have removed the plant and put it in the trash.

Glad to hear she's doing better. Sorry to hear about you losing your only male lyretail.
