Hi all
I would have to first thanks AquaScaper for putting my "wtB" add from craigslist. I am looking for the C. Afra Cobue.
I have (as in signature)... BC seems very limited for any unique speices. I want to add maybe 1 or 2 more speices to my tank that are colorful.. perhaps away from blue and yellow. Any ideas? I would like to keep the current tank residents as well...

:Welcome: There are some fantastic private sellers of the more unusual Cichlids here in BC - check out the Classifieds (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=16). Albertans are totally into Cichlids it seems and there are several that sell online. There are some online merchants (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348) listed in the Merchant Section.
Beyond that, I'm not a Cichlid buff so I'll let the buffs make the suggestions. :D

Hey Sarah, no problem and welcome to the site :pompom:
I don't really have any other suggestions besides what Melody already said for finding these beauties but I'm sure there's someone out there who probably has them and is just waiting to share, it's just a matter of them popping up when you want them too, sometimes it takes a little while.
These fish are quite striking, I haven't seen any in local lfs in a long long time, if you manage to get some the yellow labs and these will definitely compliment each other nicely!
Good Luck!
P.S We want pictures!

Those i believe are Rams, they are beautiful fish, however i dont think you can keep the 2 together. Rams are a S/A dwarf cichlid and dont grow that large, so they may be targets for your africans. you could possibly try demasoni's, theres also a crimson looking one out there, not sure on the name but its sometimes called rusty cichlid.

My African is on the small side, but its a big group, good point. I certainly know nothing of their aggression levels. Thanks for chiming in!

from what i've read Rams aren't a good idea. Thanks though :) My lfs, Hidden Reef, they always have beautiful tank of african cichlids.. but just 'assorted' and they don't know the scientific names.. lol.. they have an albino african of some sort.... thinking of wadding the white would look stunning :) with the yellow and yellow purple/blue acei's... I'm trying to stick with the smaller mbuna spcies.. i'll just keep my eye out :)

Sarah, if you ever get a chance too, go have a look at the big selection of gorgeous Africans that Rogers Aquatics in surrey has and luckily most of the tanks are labeled so you know what's in the tanks. I know it's pretty far to travel, but I bet you'd find something that would suit your tank.

Right on Scott Road and 82ave beside the IHOP. All the staff are really good in there and they know their stuff, even if you don't buy anything it's still a nice place to check out.

All I know is they don't have Livebearers so they can't be THAT good  .

They've got the standard issue Livebearers, Guppies, Platties and Mollies. The odd time they'll get something else. They do have other oddballs that are hard to find, but you're right they don't seem to have a very big variety of Livebearers. Perhaps you should go in there with a few of yours one day, I bet Roger would snap em up:yes:
I'm actually hoping to get some Amecas in there if I manage to get them to breed for me.
However, I am always impressed with the selection of Cichlids though so I guess it all depends on what you're into ;)

I saw two very basic species of Livebearers when I was there. I'm bitter. No, its not Roger's fault that he wants to specialize in something different, but how cruel was it to finally build a fish store within walking distance of me and not have Livebearers?! He could have made a killing off me!
That's ok, Paul would miss me if I stopped planning his orders for him....lol.
