The best thing is to donate money, but make sure it is one of the big name relief organizations. It is less expensive for them to buy what they need closer to the disaster area, then to ship supplies from here. Money will be of greater benefit.

It's difficult sometimes to come up with a reasonable donation on short notice, so back during the Guatemalan mud slides I set up a monthly donation to the Red Cross. On a monthly basis, I don't really notice the missing pennies. And, you can specify where you'd like the money spent ie education, youth programs, or disaster relief.

I sponsor a child in the DR of Congo costs $40 per month. Storm you are correct, it is hard sometimes to come up with the money on short notice. What you are doing is great, they still need the money long after the media has stopped covering the story. People always need help.

For any of you attending the Calgary Aquarium Society Speaker weekend April 2 and 3, we will be taking contributions for the Red Cross and donating our "bump" money from the auction. Hope to see you there with donations!!

Waves Coffee House (http://www.wavescoffee.ca/) will be donating 10% of all sales tomorrow (April 23rd) to Japan Relief efforts.

for all the ladies, Lush cosmetics is donating all proceeds from the Japan relief soap bars which smell awesome too. Already picked up mine!!

Now if we can just get the Japanese Gov't to let them in to do the rescue, they can help. The radiation levels complicate matters so it's not their fault, but the poor animals are suffering horribly and their owners can't help them either. Such a sad situation all around.:frown:
