I have entertained the thought of keeping freshwater Clams a few times over the years. They're excellent filter feeders and any natural & virtually effortless method of keeping my tanks cleaner is a good thought.

They appear to be peaceful, adaptable, easy to care for creatures, thriving in a wide range of temperatures, pH & KH. Most of the freshwater Clams on the market seem to come out of Asia and stay under 2". Not terribly exciting though - they burrow under the gravel & stay there....lol.

Any experiences?

I've thought about freshwater clams myself but I read that when they die you and your entire home will know by the smell ! :Eeewww:

I can believe that, based on smelling dead snails - truly nothing more repulsive.

You can supplement their diet but with the way I feed, they should get enough... I hope. If I have to add more food it will defeat my purpose.

I'll have to check into the Razor Clams - I haven't really looked at specific varieties. Thanks!
