Here is a photo of the "new gals in town". One is already preg and one is not. They're still pretty young and small. Nice shape though. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t174/jordonsmum/100_4498.jpg

When you got your fish yesterday were there any Lyre males in the tank? I stopped in today, and the only males were the pineapple swords. I think it odd that a supplier would ship all females? I am wondering if they are really young, or late developing? Meaning some may end up being males?

There were three full lyre males when I was there and about six females. The males had extreamly long gonopodiums. All of the lyres were red and the pineapples were left overs from last weeks group. Were they really all gone??? wow that was fast... Did you go to the store on View st. in Victoria???

They already appear to have a longer <ahem> extension than my females, but that may be the pic. Shouldn't take long to show. Even normal Swordtails will often wait until they're the king of the tank to develop a Sword. I've brought full grown males home, knowing they were males without a sword, and it was almost immediately developed once in my tanks. I've also had a bunch of lyres that were supposed to be female, turn out to be male. Now I look for pregnancies at the retail level. Even some of my shipment, which came from a respected breeder who has some fishy degree or another, turned out to be males.

But we can hope until then!

Well, I know the pregnant one's a female.... now it's up to the other to show her true colours... hoping she's a her.. the males obvious males in the batch were VERY male.

LOL We're so delicate! Glad to hear that one's a female for sure! I know how frustrating it is to find males amongst the girls.

I'm laughing at Shell's hubby. I'm sure some men are sensitive and delicate, its just that most of them don't like girls.
