View Full Version : Using Gelatin Mixes for Med's

I have read that Praziquantel (Branded Prazipro, among others) is most effective on internal parasites if it is ingested. It apparently doesn't taste very yummy because the kids don't like food soaked in it.

Praziquantel is heat-sensitive so I don't want to use it in my dehydrated homemade foods, but I would like to add it to something tastey. That leaves Gelatin mixes, which I don't normally make.

I figure I could make it into a paste of med's & flake foods, freeze-dried foods, peas & garlic. The flake & freeze-dried should soak up the Prazi, the peas are a fave of theirs and it aids digestion, and the garlic is an attractant to further ensure that they eat it as well as having anti-parasite qualities itself.

I guess it will take some trial & error, but Prazi is very expensive so I'd like to avoid as much of that as possible. Has anyone done a lot of the gelatin foods? I could use all of the tips I can get. I'd also like to hear if anyone has heard of a recommended dose for treating with Praziquantel orally.

I see internal parasites on a semi-regular basis in wild-caughts and some store fish. Garlic seems to do the trick for most, but some appear to have particularly stubborn cases so I'd like to have a back-up plan. I have no intention of selling the mix so don't ask - I'd be tangled in red tape for a year if I got into selling drugs...lol...but I would like to share the recipe if I come up with something.

Thanks!
