What's the floating plant? It looks like a great place for fry! Are they Bettas at the front/top?

I need new pictures again these tanks have changed abit.
I don't know what that plant is called, sorrey I am hoping someone recognizes it.It produces little plantlets in the armpits of its branches so it clusters up pretty well. the guppy fry did great but I just lost a whole bunch of platy fry.I am kicking myself now I didn't expect to loss so many:no: .
Yes the female battas are in the corner. their tails and fins were not in good shape, and the red and white one was being a bully so I moved her out into a cycled jar and now they are doing better.
I took most of the floating plant cluster out and droped the water leval and put an airstone back in. There is no protectio between the lightbulbs and the water, so the airstone use to blow my bulbs. But when I took it out there wasn't enough circulation so I put it back.
This tank has the algae broblem too.

Algae is usually overfeeding or over fertilizing - an imballance of some sort, but you probably have that nailed already.
Female Bettas LOVE fry, found that out the hard way. They're smart - they hunt the fry and can wiggle through the cover. They lay there and wait for the fry. Beautiful fish though - I'd love to have a planted tank full of them. Some say the secret is in adding a bunch of females from the same store tank at once, or the same brood if you buy privately. I don't know how much truth there is to it since I haven't tried it, but I'd like to one of these days.

Wow, I would never have suspected that. Smart devious little hunters, aren't they?:(

I had a Golden Algae Eater (CAE) that would do that too. I had a 'Plant Mat' attached to the sides of the tank for fry to hide in. He'd wiggle between the glass and the plastic foliage and munch away. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting more fry - females were birthing everywhere, then I caught him. He was doing it at night. He'd sit there perfectly still until one swam by.
With Bettas, they can't move fast so I suppose they do what they have to do.

Melady goes to show how smart fish can be. I know bettas love fry. I remember my first batch of guppy fry I have a yellow/white batta who got a sore on his lip/chin, at first I thought he was sick until I saw him slam his face into the gravel to get a fry. He seemed to learn not to do that anymore, he doesn't get the sores anymore.
I think it was him and the adult platies that got the platy fri. Next time I will get them out faster.

The adult platys love to devour them if they can. Actually, as I let nature take it's course other than having lots of plants for cover, they definitely keep the number of fry down in my tank.
