this is my 125 gallon tanganyikan community, mostly tropheus.
the lights are LED i got them locally, filter is an eheim 2080 for now i'd like to get a 2262 as well for boxing day
inhabitants are:
4 white 'chaitika' calvus
7 gobies, 2 are eretmodius and 5 are tangan irsacae
~38 Tropheus N'dole red
lots of multi's, 2 parents and i have no idea how many fry but im sure they outnumber the rest of the fish
3 L144 plecos 1m/2f

i took ~20 pics today and the moonlight ones are a bit older, tell me what you think :)

Nice pics and fish, starting to colour up some more! They've grown quite a bit, they look very healthy and strong. Nice.... [envious too]

Great pics. Really nice tank. Neat to see a corner of it set up for your multis. Moonlight shots are cool but I like the others for the detail they show. Thanks for sharing the pics with us. Your fish really stand out against the white rock and sand. How much of a challenge is it to keep the sand looking so nice and clean?

not hard at all i have 3 big powerheads so its almost a whirlpool in there, the poo doesnt even settle it just swirls around till the filter gets it

a friend brought me over this beautiful male L-144 pleco last night, he quickly claimed the pleco cave that my gobies and tropheus sometimes hang out in but arent overly keen on defending, havent seen him leave it since. there are already 2 females in there for him, i had 3 silver tip plecos too but im giving them to Death's Sting and hoping for some L-144 fry in the future.

He's a beauty. Now all he has to do it convince one of those gals to join him in his cave to spawn.

MIKE!!! where did your friend get the male L144. I've been looking for a 2m 2 female L144 but can't seem to find some haha.

And oh btw, nice tank as always :)

Clint - he got them from some guy in burnaby that breeds them

this morning i saw one of the multi babies all the way over on the far right side of the tank under the rock, it was being stalked by a calvus and right before the calvus snatched him up i pointed my finger at him and he darted but i have a feeling this little shellie is going to get naturally selected over the next few days if it doesnt start being more careful. hes not even from the largest batch of shelly fry its somewhere in the middle size-wise, maybe he was sleep swimming and doesnt know how to get home now lol.

that being said its pretty interesting watching a calvus stalk a small fish, its like the fry didnt even see him he was so still and thin creeping up and then once he was really close he inverted himself almost vertically head down (which ive read is what they do right before they strike, and when i pointed at him to stop)

might try and catch it on camera if i see it again

Either that or he's just one of those curious advernturous ones who is oblivious to the potential dangers. (There's always one kid in the crowd who marches to the beat of his own drum.)

I don't blame you. Stand guard and keep him safe (camera in hand of course, to capture the stalking and the human intervention.)

i need to see that!!! i had an eyebiter way back in the day and when i dropped guppies into my tank (i wasn't too keen about what fish ate) whenever the guppy found a good hiding place in the plants and when everyone gave up looking....that eyebiter would always be on the prowl till it found it. it never gave up.

i don't have it in me to watch one of my fish become food to another. i know its all survival of the fittest, but it makes me feel bad that i would just let it happen. when i was dropping guppies into my tank before...a little part of me felt the slightest guilt.

I like to remind myself of a life lesson I learned from the lion king. Its called the circle of life. Sometimes I forget about the easy lesson, but life seems to remind me in a jiffy.
