I have a 110g South American Tank,(Temp=80, ph=6.4) that I would like to introduce some sort of filter feeder too. It's current occupants are Geophagus Surinemensis, and Juripari. I feed a homemade gelatin based mixture, that tends to cloud the water a bit when the Geo's ravish it. I would like to get some sort of filterfeeder or oddity that would eat some of the small suspended particles of food, before my filters clear the tank. The food is a mixture of krill, brine, worms, peas, spirulina, daphnia, and Omega One SuperColor Flake food. I like that brand of flake because the main ingredient is whole Salmon. My Geophagus really benfit from the natural color enhancers in salmon skin. I hope to find something native to South America to add a bit of diversity to the tank, while benefiting from an otherwise wasted food source.

Any and All suggestions welcome.

Wood Shrimp (Atyopsis moluccensis?) are also found in South America, according to what I've read. They're supposed to be ace filter feeders.

I've been researching the very same thing actually - filter feeders, but I've been looking more at Clams.

My Geo's already get enough crustacean in their diet, so I'll have to avoid the wood shrimp,;)but clams would be an interesting addition.
I have a Violet Goby in our community tank, but the water conditions would be poor at best in the SA tank.

Oddities rock, I must say. Some may even infer that I'm one myself ;) .
