Are you going low tech? if so you need a 2 letter bottle some vinyl tubing a check valve wouldn’t hurt a small bottle and some thing to help the Co2 dissolve in the tank. The power head is just one way of keeping the Co2 in the water long enough to help it dissolve. Red is a power head, the blue thing seconed bottle to sock up the crap that the yeast gives off, Pink is a check valve, The other thing is a bottle. You well need 2 cups of suger, warm water, 1/4 tsp of yeast and and 1/8 tsp of baking powder. I would check the amounts but they should be close. I get yeast from the bulk barn.

I've never done CO2, much less make my own but there are several threads on it. To view them, check out the links under CO2 in the DIY Project Index (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9914).

Let us know which way you go to set it up.

It just takes a couple minutes to set things up. I've done it for a while now. Cheaper than $300 for dedicated hardware and tank. This method is decades old in practice.

I'll offer advice/tips to anyone who'd like on how to set it up.
Just shoot over a pm and i'll answer.
