Someone on Happy Turtles Pub posted this link and it's too good not to share.

Can you imagine sitting on a plane on the tarmac at a major airport (in this case JFK) waiting to take off, only to be held up by a turtle on the runway? Check out this video (http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/jfk-runway-turtle-crossing-13962038) of these turtles who annually cross the runway one by one to lay their eggs and stop traffic at the airport.

In 2007, I was working wildlife control at Montreal Trudeau airport. Biggest hazard were swallows, kestrels and woodchucks.

The swallows were nesting on airport buildings and hangars. Kestrels were hovering in search of voles and grasshoppers and the groundhogs were just...in the grass.

They could implement a trapping and relocation programm for the females... kinda like salmons being ferried over a dam.

Slow ancient ways colliding with our unatural stupid-fast world.

thanks for the vid!

Never ever imagined turtles would hold up air travel. Thanks for sharing that.

I can recall on one holiday a number of years ago seeing a "Turtle Crossing" sign somewhere but can't recall where.

If you live in Ontario, and know of a road that really needs a Turtle Crossing Sign, here's a way of getting a sign posted (which might help save the lives of some of the turtles: http://www.torontozoo.com/adoptapond/turtleCrossing.asp

That is hilarious. Never thought I would hear about air traffic being on hold due to turtles.

And how do turtles "storm"
