Jobs for the Mentally & Physically Challenged

I have a cousin & neighbour who are what I refer to as 'borderline' mentally challenged. They are capable of functioning in society but at a different level than the rest of us.

While job hunting this morning I found a program that is perfect for these individuals. THEO BC provides training & job placement. I'm sure there are similar programs Canada-wide.

The families of these individuals are often under a lot of stress, worrying about their future, so I thought I'd pass the information along. The program is non-profit.

I have a Woman working for me right now from Theo. She is legally blind and deaf as well as some other physical challenges. I have to say though, that she is one of my best employees. Not that she is the fastest or most productive, but she comes to work everyday with a smile on her face and is eager to work. The moral that she brings is amazing. If there is anyone out there that is looking to hire someone from Theo, please let me know and i can let you know how it works. There are people in life that have challenges that are more aparent then others, but you will be suprised at how valuable someone can be.

Gotta also put in that i think this thread should be moved to "waterfront" as it isn't a charity topic. The last thing that these people want is for people to feel sorry for them.

I understand....I guess i feel that people shouldn't hire them just because they are challenged...

That I can't influence. I can, however, create awareness by promoting non-profit organizations here, rather than having them lost amongst off topic posts. Thanks for your comments.
