I have a couple of large pieces of Texas Holey Rock in my tank... great to up the pH and also offer wonderful hiding places for my fry. I have never had a problem until this week. The snails always wander over them cleaning up bits of food and any algae and the tiny snails venture into the holes to find goodies to eat. However, one silly larger snail (nickel sized P. Bridgesii) decided to venture into one of the holes and got himself stuck. At first, I wasn't sure if he was stuck as I could see him busily eating. However, when he didn't venture out after a couple of days, I figured I had better check. Sure enough, he had wedged himself in there (I guess there must have been a tidbit of food so irresistible that he forgot to consider his size. ).
And so, I had to pull the rock out of the tank and wrestle him of out the hole. (It would have been an easier task had I smaller fingers.) It took some maneuvering but I did get him dislodged with only a slight nick to the edge of his shell. When I put him back in the tank, he stayed in his shell for a little while, then slowly ventured out and off he went foraging for food.
Hopefully, he has learned his lesson and in future he stays out of small spaces...then again maybe not. :wideeyed:
