Are plume tails a deformaty that shows up or is it a seperate strain of guppy? I have some guppy fry that were born 4 or 5 weeks ago that have a pointy tail. The parents are new yellow guppies I got before xmas with reg tails. Not all the fry are like this only 3 or 4 out of 8 or 9 that survived.Do we think they are plume Tails or could they be sick with something?

If it looks thin & pointy it may be clamped fins, indicating one stress or another. Otherwise there are spade tail and pintail finnage variations, along with swords. I'm not sure at what age they show themselves. You could pose the question at guppydesigner.com. Pictures would help but I know its difficult to get a good shot of such small fry. Make sure its a point in the finnage and not the coloring - they often have a normal fin but part of it is still clear so its hard to see.
The female may still be delivering fry from a previous mating. Expect some surprises if there were different males in the tank or if she was alone with other females;) .

Thanks Melody. I guess I should wait and let them get alittle bigger. Right now all I know is some don't look the same. I will check out the other site too maybe get some ideas.
