You're never going to believe how I found out, and a few of you will kick me. I kept the female blue mickey mouse platy seperate in a 10 gal of her own to make sure the illness never got to her. (Everyone's doing great by the way). Anway, I think I mentioned that I was selling my 10 gal and buying a 20 gal.

I had the 10 gal all emptied out and moved her to the 15 gal until I got my 20 gal. I was carrying my 10 gal out the the woman's van who bought it and I looked at the gravel (I have no idea why). Of all darn days for that fish to drop her fry, there some of them were swimming around the bottom of the emptied 10 gal. So back into the house we went and I syphoned the babies out. Thank god i had left a few inches of water in the bottom for plants!!!! She still looks very pregnant to me though with a huge black spot still. I managed to find 12 babies and hope that more will be dropped.

So... congratulations!!! They're alllllll yours!!!! I'll keep you posted on any more.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked. I think I interrupted her though, she still looks so very pregnant with a big black gravid spot.... is it possible for her to just stop and hold the rest or could it be my imagination???

:red_dance: Congrats!... glad you spotted the wee ones. They are very tiny. That's why its usually days before I can find any in my 70g.

I have no idea... I suppose it's possible if you interrupted her while she was actually giving birth. Keep us posted.

They can give birth over a long period of time, but usually its quicker. She may have started in the morning and was interrupted though. Has there been another fish in the tank recently?

Anyways, that's awesome! I'll start gathering up the shipping supplies & goodies! I got some nice Blues in from Blaine too, so we'll get a good gene mix going.

Thanks for stopping the whole operation and saving fry that you didn't particularly want - much appreciated!:notworthy:

No problem. The bad news is I had no where to put them now that i'm in transition between tanks. I pick up my 20 gal tonight. I had to put them in the 15 gal with mom and a few others. The good news is they have TONS of cover. I have floating plants, ornaments and planted plants. They seem to be hanging out in the floating plants. I'm leaving the tank in peace to see if mom drops anymore. Shawn and I both counted 12 fry and she still has a very large and black gravid spot.

Speaking of mix's. Mom's in with the male Lyretail now that got my two females preg. It'll be interesting to see if anything comes out of that. I don't mind waiting.;)

I opened up the tank lid this morning to see 12 little pairs of eyes looking up at me demanding food. They seem to be doing well but the little buggers won't stay still so I can see their MM tails. Mom STILL looks preg and is really trying to isolate herself. I think when I move everyone to the new tank, I'll leave her and babes in that tank alone. Daddy lyre sword has been harassing her like crazy, so I'm wondering if she just hasn't had time to finish....

Yeah some alone time would do her good. Males love a female who has just given birth - trying to get their hit in. Glad to hear that the fry are doing well.

I had a chance to get a better look at Blaine's blues last night (I keep the lights out for the first 24 hours to help them destress after shipping). They're showing definite blue even at a young age. Blues have improved since I last took a look at them.

They sound very nice. I'm wondering what a blue molly crossed with an orange lyretail would look like... hmmmm I hope I get to see.

I just checked in on the Mom Blue platy when I went to make my son's bed. She was fat this morning still with a black gravid spot. I think she finished dropping today when I turned the light off for her. She's a LOT thinner than she was this morning but darn it all, I can't find any new fry. The ones from yesterday are still hovering up in the floating plants. The tank's pretty bushy with plants though, so i'm hoping they're just well hidden. I had the filter intake covered for days, so they're not in there... I'll keep counting for ya.. with any luck i'll be sending 30 instead of 12. If there are lots I might keep just one to see out they turn out;) .

Great! Hopefully you'll find more. Try to keep the lights out for a few days if you can.

ok, is that for stress? Or so the fry can hide? or both?

Both, but more for fry. If the male is hassling her then it would do her good too. They are prone to infection right after birth so its best to rest them for a few days if you can.
