I bought a pair of these beauties about a month ago...maybe two months...I can't remember...lol I knew they were a pair b/c while they were at the store, the male was holding eggs...but of course when I got them home the male either spit out the eggs or swallowed them.

Tonight, i'm watching the pair...and I'm fairly certain i'm watching them get their groove on! I can't wait till the male is holding a mouth full of eggs/fry! As soon as that happens, i'm soooo going to post a schwack of pics! LOL

I had to share my enthusiasm! hahaha

Good luck!

Yes Dan, in the last ten years, many advances have been made in the field of marine breeding and fry raising. The hardest part isn't to get them to breed, its raising the fry. With various larval stages and different food requirements at each level, it gets quite expensive and time consuming to raise these them. The easiest ones are the bangaii, as they are a mouth brooder and the fry gets spit out pretty much ready to go. In the wild, the father will spit them out in a sea urchin to give them protection from predators. In the aquarium, aritificial urchins can be made.

Best of luck breeding them. I hope you manage to raise a bunch of fry.

Spawn failed 'cause day after the pair spawned Dad croaked. I'm frustrated enough to almost call it quits on SW...lol Dang it..spent too much money on these fish! Maybe one day i'll get it all right ;)

It's hard to lose a fish, but really frustrating when you were on the verge of having a tank full of fry. Losing that male is like losing a whole colony of Bangaii Cardinals or potential colony at any rate.:frown: Hang in there. Don't let it discourage you.

On the bright side, you got them to spawn, so you must have been doing something right! His death could have been any number of things.....maybe it was the female being left unsatisfied.....or his wife caught him cheating with his mistress.....you never can tell.
