View Full Version : Python Repair

I'm going to ask this in the DIY section because I'm almost certain that someone told me you can get Python parts in hardware stores, say a magic word, and fix it yourself.

The pump (http://www.pythonproducts.com/repparts.html) stopped sealing (where the screws are) on the refill setting (up). It never did seal completely, but now only a trickle is shoved down the hose. I don't see a washer on that part, so I'm assuming I have to replace it.

I can order a replacement, but their site is still back in the stone ages - no online ordering unless I'm stupid enough to e-mail credit card info, which I'm not. Calling isn't that big of a deal, but something tells me their $3 shipping won't apply and I'll have to wait. If anyone knows where I can get them closer to home, that'd rock.

I don't suppose anyone remembers where I put my manual waterchange vacuum?:Dunno:

I never investigated, but a few years ago, a local aquarist told me he fixed his python with an almost identical part from a waterbed store. It kind of makes sense.

I think it is the same adapter (waterbed fill and drain faucet adapter). You can check out waterbed repair places.

However, before buying a new one, check to see if yours just needs to be cleaned. Gunk may be built up preventing a seal between the plastic pieces (You're right, there is no washer). Unscrew the 2 screws (almost all the way) and the end piece will come off. Clean and slide the end part back on (lining up screws with grooves) and tighten screws.

You are welcome to as little, or as many of these parts as you desire.

I checked to make sure it was clear in the process of elimination, but it was fine.

Mr. Jewels, please PM with more info .

Thanks all! Now maybe someone could give me a faster way to finish checking my content to see what was lost in the server upgrade... :nah:

Marina's Aqua Vac parts fit the Python. They are also readily available in stores. I am currently using the tap adaptaer from them on my Python set-up.
