View Full Version : Tankmates for dwarf neon rainbows?

My 6 new dwarf neon rainbows will be going into my 33G soon. I was considering putting my 12 harlequin rasboras, 2 German rams and 1 BN pleco in there with them. All are still quite small so the bio-load should be okay for the time being. The tank is filtered by an AC70 that pumps 300 GPH.
The rams will likely be moved once they get a bit bigger. I just want to put them in there because their colours should complement the rainbows nicely. Does anyone see any compatability issues with this stocking plan? Is it over-stocked already? The rainbows are 2" each, the harlequins are 1" each, the rams are less than 1.5" and the BN pleco is about 2".

Stocking is just fine, in my opinion. I don't think the Rams will be compatible for long but I'm not very familiar with them so take that at face value.
Sounds like its going to be a beautiful tank! Limia Tridens or Nigrofasciata would blend in well too - a very sparkly blue & some gold to compliment your female's finnage.

These little guys rock! Now I want some, but since I can't, you can get some and I'll live vicariously through you. A tiny Rasbora without the guilt - Boraras Maculatus (http://www.tfhmagazine.com/default.aspx?pageid=392). 2.5 cm!

my dwarf neon get along with all - rosy barbs, previously bolivian and german rams, tetras, rasboras, kittyfish, other rainbows, livebearers. Actyually my large male sailfin molly has been trying really hard to impregnate the poor guy. He doesn't mind too much - i only have the one left, the others have jumped over the last 3 years. I should get more, but he schools with whatever so i'm not in a huge rush.

The Rainbows get along with everyone, I'm more concerned about the Rams' aggression (based on what little I know of them). Was that in your big tank?

yes the 96g- the rams stay at the bottom for the most part and rainbows stay middle to top of the tank. The only time i would think there would be aggression on the part of the rams is if the rainbows sniffed out eggs that the rams were guarding.

Awesome... their more mild temperament has tempted me several times so I've done a little reading, but I'll take personal experience over that any day. Thanks for clarifying!

Yeah, the rams stay near the bottom except at feeding time. I also doubt they could catch the rainbows so aggression from them shouldn't be a problem.

I'll put them on the list of "Life after Livebearers" ;)
