Always and I mean ALWAYS use both a check valve and a 'purge container' for co2 generation.
The check valve will prevent tank water from flowing into your yeast mixture.
More importantly however a 'purge container' will prevent any of the yeast mixture from entering your tank.
An example of a check valve:
(make sure it flows towards the aquarium)

example of a dyi co2 system:

You don't need the tie wraps...both bottles can sit at the same level. Add a bit of water in the purge container as you now can use it as a bubble counter.
Another small tip. Use airline tubing splices for the holes you made in the bottle caps. Insert these, hot glue down and then attach your co2 safe tubing. This will allow you to change out the bottle a lot easier.

To have great co2 dispersion, give this a try. Place the co2 line-in into your filter intake as I've done here.

Any questions etc etc...drop a note here or pm.
