View Full Version : Zebra Danio

Watching my tank tonight I noticed that one of my smaller danios has a gold tone to it and seems to have taken two big fat danios off to their own part of the tank to chase around. Is this what I think it is?
How am I supposed to go to bed now? I know they're egg scatters, I suppose there's not really any way to save any of the eggs with my current set up. Just take this as good news for the day my 10g is free, fixed and clear to try breeding them in.

Hi KristaLynn,
When my danios spawn the whole group gets involved, a little like a back-up chorus:-)
If you have a 2 gallon jar and an air bubbler, you can entice the fish to spawn on a mop, remove it right away and hang it in the jar. Just use water from the tank. Add some moss for an instant nursery. The young, if they hatch, will be fine in the jar until a cm in legnth.

I don't have any mops or moss! I'm really not at all set up for breeding.
I had heard of the marble thing too! That's what I'm hoping to do with my 10g some day. I want to use the 10g to try my hand at live plants and breeding the zebras.

Mustang's wife breeds her rosy barbs with mops and marbles. Boy was she excited with her first babies!
to make a mop, get some dark coloured 100% synthetic yarn and a book about 15 -20cm/6 -8". Wind the yarn around the book 15 to 20 times. Tie off one end, and snip through the other. Easy breezy. Simmer the mop in water just incase of dye leakage, then attach either to a weight or or a cork, depending on where in the water column you'd like it.

You'll find a couple of links to making mops in the DIY section. Check the DIY Project Index (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9914) under Spawning Mops.

Not easy to find a 3-letter word... our search engine ignores 3-letter (or less) words.

I bred a couple of danios with marbles. You get clouds of fry, but I never succeed in raising more than 20-30 of them. Maybe 1%. It's better than nothing, but they are overwhelming in their numbers.

If I managed to get 20-30 to live on my first or 5th try the bragging would be unreal.
