Just a couple of plant ID's, if you please...

Both plants in this photo - the thin leaved one and the one with a bazillion curly leaves:

And this little gem:

I want to look up their care instructions. Thanks!

First one is Elodea.....I would suggest E. canadensis.

Thanks - I can picture a jungle of it being wonderful for fry to hide in... and it would look cool too, if you're a jungle fan...lol.

Bottom one looks like it cold be Bacopa.

I'll take a stab at the other one in the top photo being Rotala, maybe Rotala pusilla?..

It almost looks like three different plants in the top photo...One straight leaves, one curly, and one curly with jaggedy leaves...

You're right, they do look like three different plants  .

If that's Bacopa I'm gonna have me a good laugh. I recall someone saying that P. Bridgesii Applesnails ate their Bacopa and argued the point relentlessly. That tank is low light and the plants receive no care, yet with a tank full of big, pink breeding Bridgesii (you can see one behind it), my Bacopa is lush and green. Go figure. The bottom leaves were stripped when I got it, incidentally, so don't even say it!

Thanks!

the plants i sent you are great for hiding fry - mine love it! sorry i don't know what they are though. They do need to be planted - they can't float - they'll die quickly but they do grow quickly when planted. I really enjoy it - my tank is FULL of it!

The curly leaved one, if its the one named, says in the info it can float. Or do you mean the thin leaved one? I'm pretty much completely plant-stupid.

Good motivation to get me planting the rest of these pots! Do you strip the bottom leaves when you plant them like I have to do in my terrestrial garden?

Yeah, I usually strip the leaves off the very bottom of the stem when planting. I figure they will just rot away if they get planted in the substrate though I have no actual proof to back that up.

BTW, I still have some spare pots if you need any...

the curly leafed one dies if not planted - my big fish uproot them periodically and they die, the fluffier looking one - i dunno, it hasn't been uprooted in the wilds tank.

The E. canadensis? The info says it can float and grow... maybe its a different species after all? Believe me I'm not questioning you...lol....just wondering. I'll plant a bunch and float a few to see how it goes. Seems to me I've had it floating before and its not there now, so it may indeed be something different than what I'm researching.

Mr. GP, I still have some, but thanks for offering!

Well, it is certainly an Elodea or Egeria, all of which will grow well floating or rooted.

Some prefer it cool, do they not? Maybe the lights make the surface too hot in her tank?

could be the light is too strong for mine and thats why it appears to get burnt the leaves go dark and kind of shrink if not planted.

Makes sense to me, especially since some species like it on the cool side. Its good to be aware that not all floating conditions will suit it anyway. My waterlines are low because of the snails so we'll test the theory. Come to think of it, I threw it into the tank that doesn't have a low waterline last time - plants do better in that tank and since there's no snails, the waterline is normal. So the light theory may (ahem) hold water...lol. Thanks for sharing your experience - I kill plants just fine without tempting the fates.
