I wonder where
Them Snailbies is?
Spring has hit British California and the snails are feeling it! I went looking around today for signs of Spring in my tanks...

Any slimey signs of Spring in your tanks? I designate this the Slimey Signs Of Spring Thread! Let us know when the snails start going nuts in your tanks. Maybe we'll even see a pattern across Canada. ::D: Don't forget the pictures if you have them!

Well, the spring has sprung on then....
Had a clutch hatch, oh say a week ago, of bridgesii. Plus there's another in the works! I suspect 3-5 days till this one is hatched! It is exciting to see the li'l uns cruizin' the glass, they are sooo cute!
I'd mention the red rams and mts, but well, there are new ones of those every day, I think?:Dunno:
Now who else out there has some? :icon_snail:

Hatching clutches is addictive I tell you! You can be dog-tired from cleaning up after a zillion growing snails, swear if you see one more string of slime you'll scream, then spot a clutch and be absolutely thrilled.
At least for you its ok - there's always that crazy snail lady who will happily dump the contents of her wallet in your hands so she can get more snails that she doesn't need.
Your babies are growing well, speaking of which - some very pretty shades of blue & jade:yes: .

Wonderful! I love this time of year, especially for the snail breeding, and it keeps on going over the Summer as a rule too. They do Winter breed if the urge strikes, but its nothing like the enthusiasm they show this time of year.
Pics?
Pam, Jay is going to look at the breeder's directory this weekend! Does he rock or what? :pompom: I would like to see us all saving some shipping and doing some trading very soon. Congrat's on the Het's too! She may have even more over the next few days.

Ah yes, the Brigs are laying. Another clutch last night. I decided to take a picture when I did a water change... impossible to get a pic unless you remove the canopy.

I had two snails up on the glass last night checking out potential sites (neither anywhere near the filter where the clutch appeared... and so don't know who 'mom' is.

And then of course tonight a earlier very small clutch hatched. To give folks an idea of how tiny these little newborn Brigs are (& how many) here's a pic in their new home (for the moment)... a Cottage Cheese Container. There are just as many on the other side which you can't see.

And now begins the work of raising all those very tiny little ones to grow up to be healthy and have perfect shells. Daily water changes, etc. But it's worth it... so much fun watching to see them grow and the variations in the colors.

Well the wee ones are growing but my Brig's are on laying vacation. I hate it when they do that...lol. Of course, the one tank I need a clutch out of (Jade, Striped Jade, Striped Gold, Chestnut & Gold) haven't laid a clutch at all. They're eating like they're all pregnant, but that's about it. Granted, there's only a few breeder size but geeze, get on with it! :twitcy:
How's the clutch laying elsewhere? I need some hope over here....lol.

Nothing fast and furious happening here but I seem to get a clutch from my Brigs every couple of weeks or so. Maybe I should send some of my Brigs your way to spur yours on. :;):
Melody
May 15th 2007, 12:34 AM
Don't think I haven't considered sending that tank in particular home with you! lol Isn't that always the way though - the ones you want to breed, never breed.

You're just taking the wrong approach... threaten them with their lives if they dare lay a clutch... maybe that's work.
Melody
May 15th 2007, 12:52 AM
I'm thinkin' you're right.
<loudly so they can hear me> MIGHT JUST GET OUT OF JADE/STRIPED GOLD/GOLD ALL TOGETHER. THE LAST THING I NEED RIGHT NOW IS MORE OF THEM!!!!
:secret: How was that?

That ought to work... let me know if it had any impact.
