Had a thought tonite, with all of the renovations etc going on, would a used bathtub work as a large fishtank ?

It would probably have to mounted on the floor, or at least close to the floor.

For most tubs, one side would have to be supported with some framing. The drain could either be plugged or a bulkhead could be installed for a sump drain pipe.

Chips in the porcelain could repaired with a little silicone.

I would guess used tubs would go pretty cheap.

The only challenge would be a lid for it, although, a little thought and that could probably be overcome.

Hmmmmmmmm......

The purpose of having fish is to see the fish Blaine....lol. It could make for a decent indoor pond though.

What?! I don't see how my having rubbermaid tubs with fish in them has anything to do with this conversation. We are judging you here, not me. Sheeeesh!

You can also use cattle troughs, incidentally. I'd like to set up an old wood one as a pond in my backyard, with an old fashion pump. Retro is hip. ;)

i have been using a fiberglass tub for the last year to house goldfish and tilapia, and it seems to be working well without any modifications, i have tried in the past to use the metal style of tubs and ended up poisoning my fish, because of a couple chips in the tub, even the small nicks seem to release a lot of toxins, so it can be done and done easily, just use caution and like you said patch everything very carefully. and no worries i have almost 100 fish in rubbermaids spread around the house all different breeds

I had a friend who used a 6 ft claw-foot tub as an indoor pond. it looked like a Victorian fantasy. Gorgeous.

If you only need to keep the fish somewhere and not really see them, then I guess it would work fine. I buried a claw tub in the back yard and use it as a small pond during the summer months.
