I've been battling a fungas on a lyre sword I bought recently (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1198) She still has a white mark on top of her head, I put a light on the tank today and got my glasses on (sigh .... old age :GEEK:). I can see a small raised spot there still. No meds have been used since the 24th but lots of clean water. I couldn't find Rid-Ich + here but on hand at home, I have Quick Cure, Clout tablets, Furan-2. Any of these help?
I'm at a loss at what to do.

If she seems fine otherwise, I'd just keep the environment extra clean. Fungus often arrives on an injury, so you might just be seeing the injury site. Throwing med's at an unknown will just cause more stress, which can make the problem flare up, resulting in a vicious cycle. If it starts to fungus more again, then I'd try a round anti-fungal med's.

So, you are thinking it is slowly going away? I just wondered about the small raised spot there and thought the Maroxy would have gotten rid of the fungus completely? Would adding Melafix again to the water help?
Ooops, and yes, she seems fine otherwise.

I'd just stick with salt & clean water. It sounds like it may have been an injury so there might always be a scar of sorts there. If it isn't growing fuzz, it should be ok. They also get tumors but those normally wouldn't invite the fungus, so I'm thinking injury. I could be thinking something else tomorrow...lol...but all we can really do is guess at this stuff. I think you can safely skip the Melafix too. Whatever it is/was, it didn't seem to respond to Melafix so all you're really doing is building bacterial immunity to it, & we don't want that.
That's just my opinion though, as mentioned, its tough to make the call sometimes. I hope its all over!

I know it is very hard to diagnose without seeing the fish visually. I'll just stick with the salt and clean water. Thanks Mel.

Its hard to diagnose without a lab, let alone blind....lol. The worst thing is that they can be suffering from a multitude of ailments and we're only seeing part of them. They can have a internal parasites which eventually weakens them so they get a bacterial infection, then get Ich because their immune system is taxed and weak, or it can all be in reverse, or a completely different mix entirely - its crazy.:twitcy: Half the time I never figure out what went wrong, I've just gotten better at knowing when its time to give up and put the fish down. They seem to get a certain look to them and I know that no matter what I do, it ain't gonna make a difference.
