We just don't do enough Guppy talking around here! I love the little things - their colour & finnage keeps this genetics-fanatic endlessly amused. I've gotten completely out of them a couple of times during my fish-keeping career, but I always get back into them. I've bred the show quality strains but frankly, I have a thing for mutts and crossing this with that, so the strains bore me eventually.

Awhile back, the lovely Mrs. BC Kron brought me bunches of Guppies. I kept my faves and passed some along to others, which is always fun. Then Mr. GP accidentally ended up with a lone Guppy fry, so he brought it here where it would have company. I thought I'd show off what I'd inherited, now that they've matured a bit.

Mrs. BC Kron, two of your males ended up as my breeders, the second of which is just barely breeder size and doesn't have his full finnage yet, but the colors & leopard pattern are amazing. The mature green one is unique, with his lime green coloration extending into his tail, and he has the most beautifully unique tail pattern I've ever come across. Spots on the top, and black streaking on the bottom which combined with his tail colours, brings flames to mind. Its hard to catch it on camera though, because he's always mid-flip....lol. Although he's an adult, he won't get his full finnage length until he's completely mature.

The big guy:

Then we have the other BC_Kron male, still a juvie. His coloring and the big leopard spots on brilliant yellow, orange and red are going to be stunning. He looks like he's going to get the black streaking towards the bottom of the tail too, but one never knows. He also has cobra stripes on the body. You can already see his potential:

Whatever happened to Mr. GP's Guppy?! Well he has made the breeder male cut too, in another tank. He's another unique one, although the camera doesn't quite pick it up.

His tail is a vivid red/dark orange with gold streaks going through it. His tux is dark blue with sparkling mauve at the top. There is a thin strip of deep orange running along his back, going into a blotch of deep orange in front of the tux. His dorsal is the coolest shade of dark appricot, with about 3/4 outlined in yellow, and the front quarter outlined in white. The front of his tux on his body is white, and his lower finnage is white. All of the white has just a touch of ice blue. He's still young so he doesn't have his full finnage length yet, but he's already breeding. The pic's could be better but you'll get the general idea.

Stunners to be sure, but the credit goes to Mrs. BC_Kron & Mr. Grandpoohbah. I think Mr. GP said he got the Guppy from Oleg, whom the BC crowd probably knows. Excellent fishkeepers, the lot of 'em!

Beautiful. How do you get such great pics of your males? I have the hardest time trying to pic the males. I just moved some of my guppys around to get some new breeding happening. I'm down to one long dorsel fin male so I'm going to keep him with just females maybe I can get his trates to pass on.

I almost gave up on the guppys when I lost a whole tank full,I didn't realize they were so sencitive.

Those green ones are very interesting.I'd like to mix some with my yellows and see what happens. ok ok I have to stop the wheels turning.lol

Um... Yup, I remember saying that exact thing, "foster care." Awe, come on...somebody believes me, right?...., I wouldn't either.
I'm glad you are pleased, not to brag, but those are stunning! And I love the colouring in GP's donated fella. I don't think I have ever seen that colouring in guppy, gorgeous!
If I can convince the ones you, Melody, gave Me to stay still long enough, then I'll post some pics. They are growing fast, I can already tell that several of the little fry are going to be beautiful blue males!!!

Hey, I remember that guy! He hitchhiked with a group of hi-fin platys that I got from Oleg. He sure has grown up nice.

I had a HORRIBLE time getting pic's of that green one. Every pic bleached the colour out of his tail. Finally I turned off the tank light, put a lamp in front of the tank and bent the shade so it was shining in, and took a few hundred pic's to get those. Even then one of them bleaches the green out of his tail  .

I think what amazes me most about all of them, is that if you were to describe the 'coat of many colours' to a Guppy enthusiast, they'd picture a hideous looking thing....lol....somehow they bring it all together. Mauve & orange might never make the fashion mag's, but they somehow pull it off.

Can't wait to see them! Yup, very pleased. It was fun trying to pick just a few to keep as breeders from a whole bunch of candidates, both mine and yours. We'll have to play with them for awhile and then trade fry at some point, just for fun ::D: .

It was also fun sharing the extras - your genes are all over BC!

Good thing I said that to you, Jackie. Saying it to Bill might get him a rep. :wideeyed:

Mr. Green is entertaining a herem of females, one of which is this one, whom I'm guessing is a sibling. She's about the right size, has a definite greenish shade to the body, and the tail has the same pattern. The yellow in the tail is also limey in the right light.... you can see it if you squint....lol.

I might just be able to work a strain out of them yet. ::D:
