I found this while looking up some of the plants I bought. Thought that some others might be interested in seeing this.

I got sucked into the Sandriana one before - Petsmart carries them, or they did then anyway, not sure if they do now. It did last for quite some time, a few months.
If they start to fade and you find out they're not true aquatic plants, you may at least be able to salvage it by planting it in a pot outside the aquarium.
I still say this should be illegal.

I ended up with Mondo Grass:mad:
Your right Melody it should be illegal, it really makes things hard for beginers.

Good point. Beginners just figure they're doing something wrong when the plants die. Then they go back and buy replacements which then die too.

:POed: I would never have known had I not tried to ID it and someone suggested that might be it. Its no different than a garden centre selling us Java Moss for our flower beds, so I don't see why they get away with it.

I guess we should start to loudly protest whenever we see them in stores. Speak to management, write to headquarters, etc. Methinks the BBB would have a case there actually.

Melody you said garden centers sell Java moss do they call it Java moss and is that what is put on top of the soil in plant pots?

It sounded like that's what I said, but its not what I meant...lol....sorry. I mean that if a garden center sold us Java Moss and said it was a terrestrial plant, they'd be hauled before the Better Business Bureau, yet aquarium stores can do the opposite and nobody says a word. One is no different than the other, but the aquarium stores get away with it.
I think what you see on top of plants is usually Sphagnum (sp?) moss.

LOL thanks Melody..OK that makes sence. But anytime I've gotten plants with moss on them it ended up dying so I thought maybe.
I wonder if more people complained would it change.

It certainly can't hurt. Especially if its done in such a way that it points out the business flaws. Even if people don't know what went wrong, they're not going to keep buying plants from that store when plants from other stores don't die. It also leaves the impression that the store is dishonest.
I'm sure there's times that even the store doesn't know too, so they'd probably appreciate the heads up.
