I found a cheap and easy solution to cleaning my snail tank. A floating pond basket at home depot, cost $2.50. Never sucking up a snail again PRICELESS. Okay I've yet to suck up a snail but I was really paranoid about sucking up one of the smaller one's. I also got some larger baskets for my goldfish, worked like a charm. Please don't mind the messy tank I'm in the middle of seeding a few filters with the hopes of some new snails and some goldfish fry.

That would make an excellent 'trap' for a brooding Livebearer Mama too! Its opaque enough to not stress her as much, its bigger, and you could just float it in the tank that the fry are going into so they drop right in.
Is it something commonly seen in pond sections?

Awesome! I'm sure I'll find them around here somewhere, but thanks for offering!
