Never saw a purple Platy before this one. Got her with blue, green & yellow Variatus Hifins (mostly 'Parrots'). Although the flash does pop it out, you can see that she's purple as soon as you look at her in the tank.

I should have her in with one of the Hifin Blue Variatus males to better facilitate a strain being established, but I couldn't resist putting her in with Plumetails instead. Why? Because "Hifin Purple Plumetail Platy" has a nice ring to it....lol.

I'm not so sure I like the color combo...lol...but that purple has potential anyway.
P.S. - I bet that pretty girl beside her looks familiar....

What beautiful colouration! Certainly unique, i have never seen a purple one before. Why not try to find more and start a project to breed them.

Very nice,
I had thought that was blue. That appears to be the same colour as the "blue" mm platy female that I had posted. Maybe there's a good start for keeping the colour going:;): . They're get there eventually. I'll just keep working on Barb for that road trip... heh heh heh
She's very pretty Mel!!!

Hmmm... I thought that little gal looked somewhat familiar....lol. As for the color combo... not the best but if you managed to breed that color into a plumetail wag... that would be quite stunning. The purple has great potential.

Melody, purple is my favourite color so if for some reason, you don't think she'll pair up nicely with what you have ............ well, you have my address, right?

Most of the blue variatus Platy's have that same tone & sheen which can reflect mauve highlights. As for the blue Platy's, no rush, I have a bunch here from Blaine that are beauties, along with the Hifins & some blue in the Plumetails, I just like to diversify. I think mixing everything up is what produces things like Purple Platy's....lol. Yours looks like they may be a darker blue than what I've got in my tanks so far.
Waterpond, I should be pairing her with the males since they appear to be from the same brood, I agree. I'll probably do that later. For now I also have blue Plumetails so ultimately I'd like to see those with her.
Jay, I was thinking that wag would set it off nicely too. You have a good eye... or we both have bad eyes...lol.
Thanks for your comments everyone!

Oh and that hotpodge of colours is known as 'Parrot'. They have to have at least three colours to be Parrots. Mine have red, yellow and the bodies range from purple to blue to green. The yellow in the finnage needs lotsa work though, even on the males.
One thing I don't like about Variatus is they're hard to get a pic of - I still don't have a decent pic of the males. I'll try again later.
