Limia Perugiae

Scientific name: Limia Perugiae
Family: Poeciliidae
Origin: Streams in the Dominican Republic
Adult size: Males - 3.5-4", females considerably larger & heavier.

Minimum Tank Size: 15G
Water Parameters (PH/GH/KH): pH: 6.8-7.8, GH: 30
Temperature: 72-82F
Special Requirements: Appreciates reasonably well-oxygenated water.Suitable Tankmates: Non-aggressive community.
Minimum Group Size: 2+
Diet: Ominivore with higher than average vegetation.
Sexing: Males have a gonopodium.
Breeding and Reproduction: Livebearer. Males display for the females and inseminate in typical Poecilia fashion. Gestation is 24-30 days and females can store sperm for at least six months. Brood size 10-100+, average 20-50.

Notes: This is one of the most beautiful Limias. The males are covered in gold and sparkling blue, sporting black vertical bars to set their colouring off. The females have a white belly, a central horizontal black bar, and gold top. They also sport a more subtle blue sheen than the males.
Care and breeding for this wild-type Livebearer is very easy. Somewhat shy, but curious fish. Personality is much like their cousin, the Molly. A very gentle-natured, rarely seen fish.
