View Full Version : How do I sex a busy nose pleco??

I added an albino bushy nose pleco to my 25 gal today. Very adorable and WOW active!!!! I really like him/her and was wondering how to sex them and how long I will have to wait to be able to tell, as I may get "it" a mate in the future. he/she is about 3 inches now

Males will get the "bristles", females not very many. When you come up again, I can show the males and females in my tanks.

Is there a way to sex them before then?? I'd like to pair him/her up sooner if i can.

yes, you can sex them sooner.. males will have a dark pink almost diamond shape on the top of their head behind their eyes, females do not have this.. it really stands out on the albino's

I've never met a pleco with a personality until now... This little guy/gal is upside down right in the flow of bubbles over the airstone. His tail is "flapping in the breeze" and he's holding on for dear life. If fish could drive Harley's I think he'd be on one driving down the highway doing 150...LOL Unfortunately I can't see behind his eyes right now.. Does anyone out there breed these guys once I figure out what sex it is? I'd like to buy a mate.

I know it's a long shot.. but are you able to see what you're looking for in this pic?? Was there more than one pink diamond?? Is it a big one on the top of it's head or small ones behind the eyes??? Thanks for your help. I'd really like to get this right.

yours still is a little hard to tell.. it could go either way.

My guy (who I got from Mr. Mykiss) looks exactly like yours, and is about the same size i think...

I would like to buy one more albino (opposite sex), and then I think a few of those white tipped ones. They are really pretty when they get larger <3

I like the Whitetips too. They stay cute and small, or mine has anyway. Mr. Mykiss also has the Longfin Albinos. :yes:
