I wish I had thought to take pictures of the antics in my 5G Hex but alas thought of it too late. This tank at the moment houses my Latipinna male, and 2 Green Sailfin julive females, a few Marisas and my one Cana.

First of all I discovered that my young male molly (P. Latipinna) has an aggressive side. He's been quite sociable all along until I just dropped 2 small shrimp pellets in the tank (mainly for the few snails in there). Well... wouldn't you know it he has decided that they are for him and him alone. The pellets landed about 2 inches apart. He won't let the females near either. He'll be eating one and if they even try to nibble the other one he'll chase them off. He'd better mind his manners or they won't let him have his way with them later.

Then he found his match... the Marisas... they moved in and sat on the pellets. He desperately tryed to get at them but the Marisas stubbornly hung on...lol. Even when he attempted a digging through the gravel to get at the pellet the Marisas hung on tighter still and simply shifted along teh gravel with the pellet. No way was he going to win. And so the snails (when they want something bad enough) will fight off any competition... so when it comes down to competition, snails rule the tank!

Very cute! Your marisa's need to have a word with my snails. At the moment the new addition of cory's isn't making them very happy since they even ate the snails romaine last night despite the fact that I gave them bloodworms. As cute as my cory's are, they are total thugs.

:Think:Shall I send a marisa or two your way as advisers to your snails?

Seriously though, if I'm feeding something that everybody in the tank thinks they must have, then I put small portions in different areas of the tank. I find that fish will tend to gravitate to where the rest of the fish are if there is a feeding frenzy going on... that gives the slower moving snails a chance to move in and claim their portion. However, I don't have corys so I have no idea whether that would work in your case. Good luck with your little 'thugs'.

I swear the cory's just do it to annoy the snails. I drop food all over the tank and the only food they usually want despite is being all over the tank is whatever the snails are eating. I'm thinking they are going to get their own tank in the next few days....That way I can get more of the entertaining little creeps!
