Remember when we watched the pet food recalls in horror and wondered if the melamine had made its way into fish foods?

Well it has, at least in the farm fish foods. I don't want to freak anyone out - maybe the pet fish lines never obtain their fish meal from these sources, but I would guess that its very likely that some brands do if the fish farms do.

I guess we could write to the FDA & ask them to look into it... hmmm...

Here's the story:

Fish meant for humans fed tainted food (http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/05/08/fish.food/)

Although initially it appeared that the fish meal hadn't been distributed in BC, this morning in 'The Province' newspaper it said that Federal inspectors have confirmed that some did go to BC fish farms. :wideeyed:

I saw that - its the same as the dog/cat food scandal. First it was supposed to be isolated, then it wasn't in Canada....

I suppose they have to investigate things so I shouldn't be too hard on them, but this 'scandal' started last December.

Yippers, here we go...

57 Fish Hatcheries and Farms in Canada Sent Contaminated Feed (http://www.canada.com/topics/news/agriculture/story.html?id=c7ff7e29-c883-463e-8cca-a824cb343fa1&k=31645)

This is just through the voluntary recall by Skretting (http://www. skretting.ca). It will be interesting to see if anyone else comes forward.

I've sent off an e-mail to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/toce.shtml), so we'll see if I get a response about fish food.
