I just got home to a 10G full of dead cherry shrimp. I've lost at least 20+ of my 50 or so shrimp. I test the water and lo and behold, I've got a high nitrite reading. I am in the process of tranferring the survivors to a 5G filled with water from the snail tank. The 10G had a mature filter on it so the only thing I can think of is that I overfed the tank when the snails were still in it. I feel so stupid right now because this was entirely my fault. Anyways, I just had to rant. Time to go clean out the 10G.

Oh no! That's awful to come home to. Wish I had some shrimp to offer you. However, don't beat yourself up about it. We all have things happen from time to time.
(Like the time my heater for my 5G Hex decided to go on the fritz. Stupid me, I had no temp guage on the tank to warn me the temp was getting too high. Came home to find most of the fish dead.:wideeyed:)

Well, here's the final tally. I managed to save 29 shrimp although a couple more look like they might still not make it. As of right now I have 26 casualties. The survivors are now in a 5G tank with gravel and an undergravel filter. I will be adding some moss soon and I'll probably pick up a small light for the tank tomorrow. An expensive lesson to learn but at least I have enough shrimp left so the population should recover.

I'm so sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, we all do it and besides, that wasn't exactly a 'fault' issue. It may not have even been that, who knows? Years at it and I still do incredibly idiotic things, so don't be so hard on yourself.:hugs:
Are you sure your girlfriend LIKES the Shrimp?
Trying to make you smile. Don't make me tickle you.:)
I never have enough Shrimp it seems, but of course Mr. Mykiss always has a bunch. You could use this as an opportunity to start a selective Shrimp breeding program so I have someone else to talk to about it :D . Go drive Mr. Mykiss nuts picking out individual Shrimp to get started. Don't tell him I said that.:wideeyed:

Have I taught you nothing Mr. Mykiss? If they are individually selected, you can label them premium and charge double.
