My hi fin sword gave birth and then came down with ich. I have been treating the tank with Rid Ich+, a few others got a bit of ich from her. Today would be Day 11 of treatment. All others are looking fine with no spots, she on the other hand, has some frayed fins, maybe a bit of fungus on her side. I should pull her and put in a hospital tank, I'm thinking? Treat with what? Temp should be? Or keep treating the 55 gallon and keep her in there?
The UV sterilizer does not treat fungus, just parasites, right?

Most UV sterilizers prevent the spread of both. She's probably getting this stuff as secondary ailments if she's suffering from several. Chances are she's fighting an infection of some sort. All you can do is keep things clean & have some salt in there. She may do better if you pull her so she's not stressed.

Even just being in the tank with others would be stressful, like males in the tank? I will pull her and put in a 10 gallon, clean water daily and salt, 1 Tablespoon per 10 gallons?
And should I run the UV on the 55 for the others still in there?

Go with your gut - that's what most of this stuff is, gut-calls.

Here is what I do to get rid of ich.
Like some of you know i'm an all naural kinda guy. I don't like all those chemicals in my tank. Well, here is a way to get rid of ich i have found extremely helpful. It has worked over ten times perfectly.
Here is what you do:
1. Slowly turn up the heat to about 87F, be sure not to turn up the heat too fast. I turn it ub by two degrees every 5 hours or so.
2. Wait, and watch. The ich should dissapear within about 4-5 days, getting gradually better in those days.
3. Wait another 2-3 weeks with the temperature up just to make sure the ich bacteria aren't in your tank anymore.
4. Turn down temperature slowly, to what you had it at before.
Now, here is the only problem with that meathod. It can sterilize fish, pretty common for it to do that with livebearers.
Hope this helps

Just a note, if you increase the temp's you should add an airstone as it will cut oxygen levels.
I've never had temp alone cure Ich but that doesn't mean it doesn't work for others. I've had salt and temp cure it though, and RidIch+ for stubborn cases.
Temperature won't sterilize fish - or did you mean the med's? Copper can sterilize them. Or I should say that temp's don't sterilize any fish that I've bred, which are mostly Livebearers. They originate almost invariably from hot climates. I haven't kept all fish so I don't want to make a blanket statement.:NoWay:

Silly question... but are you sure your tank has ich? I was just thinking about a person that posted on our local board.. she treated her tank for like a month for ich. She killed off a few of her fish during the treatment. It turned out she didnt have ich, in her case it was a calcium spot on an angels tail. Are you sure your not dealing with something bacterial?

How are things looking today? Just in case, if you need some info to identify the cause of the persistent problem (in case it is something other than or in addition to Ich), check out some links to numerous articles on fish diseases: Guides to Fish Illness (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310&highlight=treat+ich).
Hope things improve soon.

She is looking better, Jay. I am going to do 2 more days just to be sure.
And thank you for the sticky thread on Ich. I did do a search for it and nothing came up. Good to know you have to have more than 3 characters.

Glad to hear she's seems to be doing better.
As for the Sticky (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1665), you're welcome - just trying to faciliate the search for info on the topic of Ich.
