http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f227/canadiansinternetdotcom/MM-PPicta.jpg
Scientific name: Micropoecilia picta
Family: Poeciliidae
Origin: Trinidad, Guyana, Brazil
Adult size: 3cm (males) - 5cm (females)
Tank Specs:
Minimum Tank Size: 5G
Water Parameters (PH/GH/KH): pH: 6.5-8, GH: 20-40
Temperature: 25-28c
Special Requirements: Some add seasalt.Suitable Tankmates: Most community fish of comparable size.
Minimum Group Size: N/A
Diet: Omnivore
Sexing: Males have a gonopodium & are more colourful.
Breeding and Reproduction: Livebearers. Brood size 10-25.
Notes: This rare, small & colourful Livebearer is a relative of the Guppy, but doesn't appear to cross with them. They are found in canals & drainage ditches, freshwater or mildly brackish, through Central & South America.
There is a wide variance in body colors, much like the wild Guppy. There is also a red morph, which according to sources, occurs once in approximately 500 fish in the wild. This morph is now being bred as a strain.
Still very hard to get in the hobby, although the more common color form is getting easier to find. The Red morph is still rare and often expensive. Picta Reds have been known to break three figures in club auctions!:swoon:
