look at their pectoral fins.. males will have bristles on it and females will not.. also females will be much wider from above if they are adult specimins and in good breeding condition.

You're very handy to have around Adam  . Its great to have those who specialize in a certain fish group. The focused interest results in obscure bits of information that the average hobbyist probably wouldn't know about. Thanks for sharing your brain so freely!

Males, as another member said, are not as wide as females.

But besides having bristles on their pectoral fins, the males will have them down the length of their body:

See a male from above here:

I currently think I have 2 males and 2 females.... or else I have 2 male clowns, and 2 LDA68 ! (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=734 ) (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=981%29).... they are closely realted to clowns (L104's) and their habitat overlaps. LOL!

Here are some pics of mines:

L104:

L104 female or possible LDA68:

And again, with a L104 in behind..,,or could be a male in behind, with a female in front...so hard to tell ! LOL!

Around 4 inches.... so they are a great size, and dont get too large like some commons do

All they do is hide, chew wood and make a big mess...
Or mine does anyway.

Mine is a little more shy than my white tipped BN plecos, but he does come out of his cave often (of course especially at feeding time :;): ). He asserts himself such that he has sole rights to the log as a cave (except for the snails whom he quite accepts as roommates). All my BNs have rock caves and don't challenge him for the log even though he is now the smallest pleco in the tank. Actually even when I have a couple of large commons, he would chase them away from his cave...feisty for a little guy!

Actually, I am saying little 'guy'. Now that I have some info (thanks madattiver:smile: ), I will try to see if maybe 'he' is a 'she' next time 'he' is out where I can get a good look.
