Well, we somehow managed to get a shipment of Marisa cornuarietis in at the shop, so I grabbed a few (12ish), and I guess I am going to start producing them again...I suspect that it will be more worthwhile, now that they are scarce thanks to the USDA's new rules on them.

So, that now gives me Asolene sphixi, Marisa cornuarietis, Melanoides tuberculata, Pomacea bridgesii, and some zebra and ruby nerites.

You sure you don't need 15 or 20 Cana snails to go with that mix ?

I've read about about some species of freshwater Nerites, ones that will breed in freshwater I mean. Have you heard of any in Canada ?

Nice mix of snails .

Pretty certain, yes.

No, not at all. The zebras and rubys will mate and lay in fresh, but the eggs will not hatch...I am tempted to drop some in some brackish, though.

Nice mix of snails .

Thanks.

Didn't I send you Marisas? I have a bunch of Gold and a few striped. I've been tossing the eggs because I only have so much plant-eater space.

There's quite a few Canadian breeders now so they may be local. They supposedly can ship the plant-eaters into Canada as long as it doesn't cross US borders into another State, which leaves only those States bordering Canada. However, you still have to cross US Federal land at every border, so it is still technically crossing the respective State's lines. Then there's the matter of routes - just because you're sending it from a bordering State, doesn't mean it will immediately cross into Canada. I think it is a grey area that isn't really grey at all.

Plant eaters are much harder to move, but the Marisas are one of my faves so I can't see me getting rid of them entirely.

Congrat's on the find! And smile for God's sake! lol

There has been rumours of success, but I've never been able to nail anything definite.

No, but then, I was not looking for any at the time.

No, they are from the US.

From what I understand, the USDA is not issuing permits for Marisa, no matter what their route or destination.

Thanks, and I do...when no-one is looking. ;)

Nope, they're not issuing permits, but they don't need permits to enter Canada. I don't buy that its any more legal than anything else either, but that's the arguement I've heard. Don't be surprised if the USDA demands to know where you got them.

I know :;):

Yes, but they require permits to be shipped from anywhere in the US.

I would be...being in Canada and getting a call from CFIA is not unexpected, but it would be if the USDA called a Canadian business.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least - they're cracking down hard even on the smallest dealers. They are even making them reveal who they've sold to and they're contacting the buyers. I think they're bored. There was a little scuffle on Applesnail.net about a seller having to hand out names in fact - one customer wasn't pleased to get a call from authorities. You wouldn't get in trouble, but I think they could at least pressure you to reveal the source.

Not much...I would just tell those Yankee fascists to get stuffed....despite some popular thought, Canada is a sovereign nation and not another US state.
