This is an interesting one. Hunters found a weapon fragment in a whale they had killed, which indicates that he'd surived a similar hunt a hundred years ago. The whale himself is estimated to be between 115 & 130 years old.

It's amazing how long these beautiful creatures live. Just think of how many human generations have passed since the first arrowhead struck.

It's such a shame that it was able to survive the first harpooning only to go by the way of a harpoon some 100 odd years later. Never realized these gentle giants could live so long.

A bit like the ragged salmon a buddy caught in the Fraser. It had a bunch of hooks and lines in its mouth, apparently not an uncommon occurrence :(

When will we learn... thats such a shame. I gues its kindof neat how they found the weapon, but is finding an old peice of crap worth a whale's life?

Their view of it is certainly from a different perspective. Since killing it is ok, they figure its neato, while the first thing that us fish lovers think of is how sad it is that he survived one attack and lived so long before humans finally got him. We're certainly relentless predators.
