So... my angelfish bred... again.

History of my pair: They would breed very regularly, then the male would panic and eat the eggs whenever the lights went out at night... then the female would freak and attack him. I think this lead to the pair bond becoming unstable, as she no longer trusted him and she fought with him all the time. I had to separate them over and over again, and the last time they were separated for a few months.

So... I decide to put them together again. Again they breed.... but this time I left the lights on all night long ;) It worked !! 2 long days and bright nights later, they hatched !! They moved them from the piece of wood they laid them on, to the intake of a filter... right onto the pre-filter sponge. They lost a few from this filter... thats all right though, as there are tonnes of them ! I tried turning the lights out that night, since they had hatched, and the male was a good boy ! He tended to them fine, and the female was paranoid at first and tried chasing him away... but when she realized he was only being a good dad, she left him alone !!

Today... they moved them from the filter intake to a piece of driftwood. They are 3 days old if I remember correctly :)

Oh, by the way, I borrowed my sisters 5MP camera, and what great pics it can take ! I love it !!

I also moved my bolivian rams out of this tank today as they were very stressed from having to live in the tanks corners ! :- They now have their own 20g tank :)

Its so kewl when they parent raise!
Time to get some brine shrimp hatching. They need to be fed on the second day of free swimming. Up until then they will get what they need from the yoke sack. The parents are NOT going to like you when you feed the fry. Squirt the shrimps into the cloud of fry quickly as to not disturb the parents too much.. and dont get your fingers in there!!

Thanks !

This is my second time with angel fry, the first time I raised them myself. I used microworms and BBS :) This time I am going to start with microworms and see how it goes, the BBS are a pain in the butt to raise ! LOL!

OK....one little guy left :( Don't know what happened... they were all there last night, around 30 or so, and today gone, except for one. Either they died from water quality not being perfect enough, or the microworms were not their thing. I was trying to hatch BBS, but I think the BBS eggs I have left must have gone bad, as the hatch rate is very very low.

Oh well..... I really only wanted them to go through the motions of starting to raise some fry anyways, and I did not really want a tank of angel fry to raise... too much time and effort for me to do that right now. The pair had been fighting so much, I think this will help them get along now . The female has gained some trust in the male I do believe  Or I am anthropomorphizing too much ! LOL!

I'm sorry to hear that you lost them. I don't know much about Angels so that's about all I can offer. :hugs:Have you considered the bottled or frozen Brine Shrimp?

Oh no worries... Like I said, I really did not want to be raising all those fry. If they do breed again, I may have to order some BBS eggs online. (No source of the bottled stuff around here )... and the freeze dried stuff does not work. They need live foods, and I guess BBS are all they will accept at first, microworms as they get bigger.

I rely heavily on frozen BBS, but I have heard that some need more movement. I am trying an immitation BBS here soon, made with Brine Shrimp concentrate & other goodies. It is said to be much more nutritious. Apparently it moves like BBS in the water. Uncle Rick, one of our contest sponsors, has it. Its called 'Better than Brine' and its available in 4 sizes for everything from eggers to Livebearers. Maybe you'll win some :;): .

Refer lotsa people between now and morning...lol...but it only takes one to get in on the random draws, which also include 1 pound assortments from Uncle Rick.

If that doesn't work, I could mail you a little sample bag of it for you to try before you order. Mine will be coming in with the prize shipment. Shipping by ground should border on reasonable.

Thanks Pamelajo.
All fry now gone... oh well... probably better off as I dont have the time or space

Thanks for the info and links Melody, looks like I got one entry in to have a chance to win something! LOL! Thats great ! If I had only realized that contest was open to me (being so far away) I would have tried a LOT harder and got a lot more recruits... oh well :) And if I dont win anything... no loss ...
