Scientists have found a part of a "snail's nervous system that is identical to one in the human brain". And so, the lowly pond snail is contributing to research on how anesthetics affect work on humans.
It's amazing how we continually are discovering more and more things we have in common with other creatures on this planet.
So the next time you find yourself grumbling about finding a zillion pond snails on your plants, remember they have a role to play too... just not in your tank.:;):
