So... I have had this guy for almost a week now, and I have not seen him eat. There is lots of Hair algae in the tank, but I dont know if he is eating it or not. He comes out now and then when I feed the others, but I have never seen him take any food.

I do have some Nori around somewhere, and read that they will eat this, but how do I feed it to him... just drop it in the tank? Small pieces or one big chunk? And are there any types of nori one should not feed?

I buy my nori at Safeway.. lots cheaper than the LFS. Just make sure its un-seasoned. I feed it in about 3"squares in a vegitable clip.
It took my tangs a few feedings to realize it was food.
Now they attack it :)

Sorry, left field, but have you tried feeding it to the freshwater snails?

How do you know if it is seasoned or not? I got my from the grocery store as well, and read the package, and dont see anything about seasoning...?? The contents say dried seaweed, and that it..?

And I did not try it with my FW snails yet.... but I ma getting some applesnails, maybe I will see if they like it ! (I just wish I knew if they were canas or brigs... any easy way to tell?)

Both come in gold and brown/black, but if they're other colours (blue, ivory, pink, purple, etc), they're Bridgesii. Otherwise Brig's have a longer, pointed spire, whereas Cana's have a cinnabum (mispelling intentional...lol).

I know Shell has Applesnails so I was curious as to whether she'd fed it to them or not. I've only found it once in stores and they loved the stuff.

This demonstrates the spire difference:

There's another way to tell - put an aquatic plant in the tank. If it disappears, you have a Cana  .

I havent tried feeding nori to my freshwater snails, but the marine snails sure go for it!

If the package says dried seaweed your good.. if it were seasoned it would say something like "curry flavor".

Canas eat anything. My daughter held my Cana on her hand and he promptly decided to taste-test skin cells.:wideeyed: :twitcy:

Now that is something I never will do - I can barely pick them up when they're IN the shells.

Anyways, thanks for the info. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, sorry for the trip to left field Mindy, & good luck feeding your Yip!
