BC Day (Aug 6th) long weekend is on the horizon. Is it a long weekend in other provinces? Just wondering too what everyone's plans are. Relaxing? Bar-B-Qing? Heading to the Beach? A weekend retreat? Camping? Boating? Fishing? Projects around the house & or yard? Working? :( Setting up another fish tank?:swoon:

For me it will be much like any other weekend as I usually don't work on Mondays anyways. But lots is happening around town this weekend:

Here are a few large events In Vancouver this weekend:

HSBC Celebration of Light (http://www.celebration-of-light.com/)(Fireworks) finale on Saturday night Aug.4th.
Canada has not won this event since 2002 and the competition is Spain and China this year.
Vancouver Pride Parade (http://www.vancouverpride.ca/event-details.cfm?pageid=30&id=154) on Sunday Aug 5thWhat's happening in your town?

So far I am going to Wasaga Beach (my first trip there)

And on Sunday I'm going to totally nerd out and go to to Bancrofts Gem and Mineral show.

Monday I am going to Toronto Zoo, I'm trying to become a volunteer in their aqaurium and am going to be checking it out.

Hope you have a great time Jay!

And if I have a spare moment nuking and setting up two more 48 gallons woo hoo!

So you're taking in nature this weekend are you?... beach (So where is Wasaga Beach?), rocks and minerals, and aquatic creatures. Sounds good to me! Have fun!

Despite the big events going on in town, I'm not one for crowds so I won't be going. I haven't made any particular plans yet... I'm a last minute kind of guy... I'll decide what I'm doing each morning when I get up.

I haven't a clue where it is, but being that growing up my front door was steps to the ocean I'm sure missing it this summer and can't wait to go!

I collect gems and minerals so it should be fun...Now if I can find safe things to put in my tanks. I think the vendors would be a tad miffed if I started pouring vinegar over their rocks though. :)

 I guess you just have to get what's pretty and test it later. Good luck and have fun.

I'm still tempted to bring a cotton ball and vinegar...I can see it now, can I exchange this rock? It smells funny!

If you think you get strange looks about growing headless dandelions for you snails, you'll probably get even stranger looks if you make that statement.

I have a better idea. You get a vendor's table too. Purchase rocks, test them and resell any ones 'unsafe' for your tanks. People will be attracted to your table (out of curiosity as to vinegar smell).:;): Or, then again, they might bar you as a vendor from future events for stinking up the place. :twitcy:

BTW, I can't remember what exactly the vinegar test reveals ... so enlighten me. (I did read about it at some point but can't seem to recall :spinny: )

Ahhhh makes sense the husbands family has a cottage in Collingwood. Apparently I get to see it for the first time next month when we go and put a new roof on it.

We're taking the kids to Nanaimo and we'll be taking turns scuba diving off a boat at several different wreck dives. The bummer part is that the baby doesn't do tenting well, so while everyone else is camping, we'll be at a motel:( . The diving will be a blast though. Some friends of ours were diving with Six gill sharks at some of the same locations last weekend for like 15 mins. That would be AWSOME!!!! Cross your fingers for me that I get to see some.

Hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!!!!

All the best
Kristy

Just got back from our diving trip. MANNNNN is it weird to see a 737 on the oceans floor. It's just eary.... We swam through the inside from end to end and sat in what's left of the cockpit. Flying a plane under water is a little different ... heh heh Not much of an artificial reef has grown on and in it yet after only two years, but holy nudibranches!!!! Tney HAD to be 12" long. They were white with purple tips. Very cool... There were also TONS of HUGE lions mane jelly fish (much to my dismay). Aaannnnd that's about it there.

However, there were 3 Octopus under the Riv Tow Lion Tug boat wreck in Nanaimo and a 7-8 ft wolf eel. Very cool as the wolf eel was not there last year and is a new inhabitant. Nice to see.

There was a wopper of an octopus under the wreck of the HMCS Cape Breton at about 120ft. and lots of cabezoens.

All in all... beautiful weekend and successful diving trip!!! We're always looking for new buddies on the island if anyone's ever interested. We always seem to have room on the boat.

Hope all are well and having a great weekend!!!....... Nap time...

Ended up not going to the gem show...I did end up being surprised with a shopping trip in NY, I ended up with a Mag Drive 5000 pump, a monster pond liner, a nice lunch a few cories and the plans to build me a mammoth indoor pond in the basement tommorrow.

God I love that man!
