Just wondering about breather bags and would like your opinions.

Fantastic for fish & shrimp! They do very well and it saves space big-time. For snails I don't like them because when you ship in water the snail can leave it if it gets foul and stay in the humid air part of the bag.

Unfortunately they make me paranoid - It gives me chills to see a fish in a bag with no air, even if they're getting air. A personal issue of course, and one I have to get over.

I'd probally still put a little air in the bag myself...Just thinking about the future and the gazillion cory eggs I woke up to. :wideeyed:

You can't - they don't work properly with air in them.

Now I'll just wait here for the Cory's, K? You get busy.... or tell them to....lol.

No, and the only reason is I cannot get them here, or I dont know where to order them from. Otherwise I would use them :)

One note also, any fish that needs to inhale air cannot be shipped in these, like Bettas and other labyrinth fish for instance.

What a great way to start the day off, Kat!!! In a week, you'll have little blobs with a tail swimming around but it sure doesn't take them long to start looking like mini cories, little whiskers and all!!

Now remember what Mr. Madattiver said, you get increased fertility with every spawn and they spawn quite regularly - chin up! Soon you'll have more than you know what to do with. Remember the girl who came to me saying her Spixies wouldn't lay? :;):

Thanks Marge..I think I may get some. I'm going to see the parents in a few weeks anyways so I wouldn't have to pay the insane shipping. Hmmm I think...

I use breather bags when possible!

I will have to try them with plecos and other of the sort, see if they can puincture the bag!

Good point... I don't know if they make tougher grades or not, but I don't think so. It seems pretty strong though.

They don't make different grades, but ever try to rip one of these things?!
really hard to rip! It's almost rubbery.

Exactly. Be sure to post the results of your testing, I'm sure everyone would find it very useful.

for shrimp i cannot use nothing else.
14 days in the bag and no dead , amazing.

for fish it is not bad also.
never try with pleco :(

Remember use with caution with heat-pack they will compete for the O2.

That's an important point and I forgot all about it!

I have also had Shrimp last a week in those bags - a late US shipment. Not one loss!

We drive across the border and pick them up, then drive them across with us. Customs has no problem with them, its our delivery services that won't take anything alive. If someone ships them and they find them, they send them back. It happened to me twice. Plus even Global Priority takes over a week to arrive in Canada. Even if the water doesn't foul, the heatpacks/coldpacks are run out long before they arrive.

Please NEVER try to send snails across the border - they have very strict laws. The only aquatic snail that you can get a permit for now is the P. Bridgessi, but I don't know if they're issuing import permits for those either. They are even inspecting the homes of private breeders.:wideeyed:
