Floating plants can add a lot to an aquarium including the perception of looking natural as well as necessary for some species to breed. I have some floating plants in both of my aquariums and was slightly frustrated in keeping them localised to a section of the tank until tonight. I decided to create a boom/bouy line in my tank. You may know what I mean... floating cylinders that are linked together. So that being said I was at the LFS and mentioned the idea to him and he showed me some 3/16" plastic tubing for aquariums. It was exactly what I was looking for. Chopped it up to about 3" lengths and threaded it with fishing line. I then attached the ends of the fishing line to suction cups and placed it in the tank... works like a charm. To better get it to float I will be sealing off the ens of the bouys with clear silicone tomorrow and let that cure... that way they will float better and on the surface rather than risk sinking if they fill with water.
Just thought I would post this for anyone else out there that was frustrated trying to keep their floating plants in one location in their tank.
