Common names: Multies, Barred Shell dweller, Multi-Bar Shelldweller

Scientific names: Neolamprologus Multifaciatus, Lamprologus Multifaciatus

Family: Neolamprologus

Origin: Lake Tanganyika

Adult size: Males 1.5" (4cm) Females 1.25" (3cm)

Tank Specs
~ Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallon
~ Water Parameters -pH- 7.1-8.0 (Water Quality is more important than parameters with these fish)
~ Temperature: 75-80F (28C)
~ Special Requirements: To survive this fish need shells with wide openeings and a sandy substrate. Provide three shells per fish.


Suitable Tankmates: Other Neolamprologus Multifaciatus. Species tank is recommended

Minimum Group Size: any, depending on size of tank, a group of four to six can live in a ten gallon

Diet: carnivore- meaty foods

Sexing: males have a bit of a hump on their forhead and grow larger

Breeding and Reproduction: Shell Spawner, will spawn inside their shell.

Breeding: Keep at least a pair (male and female) DUH!, in your tank. Make sure your pH is right, and privide lots of shells. These fish are quite prolific. Fry will hatch and be sighted around the mothers shell. Feed them BBS of preparations specially made for fry. Once they become independant, privide them with their own shell.

Notes: Awsome fish to watch, and great for people who want to keep african cichlids, but have very limited space.
