Recently I've aquired 5 of Pam's beautiful albino bristle nose plec's. They all reside in a 90 gallon with several species of cory's and some amano shrimp. They were getting along just fine until today, there are no shortage of caves/hidey holes for them to choose from but just a few moments ago I put a piece of cucumber on a suction clip on top of a huge pvc cave. One abn was happily munching and in the past they've all shared the caves/food etc. I'm assuming they are both males and squabbling over the cave/food and I'm guessing when they get a bit older the females. I added another piece of cucumber to the other side of the tank but they are still squabbling. Is it time to seperate them or will the hash it out? I'm planning on adding a similar cave later today to see if that'll keep the peace.

Thanks!

I don't think that most people separate them, but they'll need space to call their own.

Congrat's - you have teenagers. :;):

If they are jockying for position (just aquabling) then you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Just keep an eye out with them and see if it gets too agressive. I have seen tanks with 10-15 plecos in it and all of them are fine together. Just depends sometimes.

The second piece of cucumber seemed to end the fued for now, there's 8 caves/pots to choose from and 5 pleco's lol. Guess I do have teenagers. Allthough I prefer to have them at work then at home. I do have some aquascaping to do in that tank, the cories trashed my plants! Okay I trashed my plants snipping off pieces of leaves for cory eggs. Needless to say there's rearranging to be done so perhaps I'll cut said cave in half since its huge. Gotta get some barnacles or pleco caves I guess.

for some reason plecs prefer smaller tighter caves. Added to the fact that most plecs won't even breed in a cave unless they need a shoehorn to get into it... lol

I was looking at making a series of breeding caves and was told that for a pleco of about 4" length you need a cave 5-6" long, 2" wide and an 1 1/2" height. they like their caves tiny follks... lol

Yep hence the barnacles, the huge cave was for the cories who like it very much, I've drilled holes all over it and am going to fill it with various mosses. But one very bossy little pleco apparently likes it as well. Go figure! :twitcy:

My decor is trashed at the moment, anything would be an improvement. :twitcy: But we did finish the tank stand for the 4 48's or 52 gallons or whatever they are and I just finished cleaning out two of em and setting them up. Needless to say I'm way behind on water changes so I guess I know what I'll be doing tommorrow. When its done and there's not stuff all over the place I'll snap some photo's.

What's a decor? LOL my look is functional, which isn't even close to pretty. I guess I do go with a natural look on purpose, but that's about it.

All my ABNP's do that, and you have to be sure to give them enough pieces of food so they dont all have to squabble. Even my females chase each other around and tail wag and push at each other, . They dont like to share ! :;):
