You can bet the farm I won't be moving a muscle until that doorbell rings. Camera is charging, it died last night in mid attempt to snap a few pictures of my new pair of black swords. A a cantankerous little fellow, lucky he's pretty.
Tank is empty and waiting, well except for a few giant female brigs who I figured could use a break and keeping it cycled. They probally won't be pleased to loose their new digs :nah:.
Thanks for thinking of me Barb!

Platy's, Mollies, Sailfin, Highfins, Possibly lyre, cories, pete pellets, the kitchen sink, the Lindburgh baby. You know reg Melody stuff.
Sorry I can't be more descriptive the new shipment of fish sent me on a bender. Since I had to exchange my cracked tank for a new one I also traded snails for: another 10 gallon, a pair of green sailfins (female is pregnant! Everyone panic! Okay just me) the male has orange and blue in his tail, he's a handsome devil. Another black female sword, a pair of dalmation mollies...Supposed to be male and female. Got em home two pregnant females! I was nervous that the black sword who is the only female NOT pregnant would be able to mate with the green sailfin so I have them seperated. I'm wondering if swords, sailfin mollies & platies can interbreed? Because I wasn't sure everyone is seperated and this took a bit of rearranging. Shuffling around air, stepping on my last air splitter..You can see where this is going huh? Rearranged my whole lil fish room that I just finished arranging last night to keep everyone apart. :twitcy: Well the lfs fish anyhoo. My Melody fish are all together at the moment, having a snack. :swoon: They are so pretty!

Sure sounds like lots of excitement at your house... that's great. You don't need to worry about the swords and platys breeding with the mollies... but the swords and platys will happily breed with each other.

OH MY GOD!!! Melody created a monster! LOL What a great selection you got, Kat. I think she might have done this on purpose, ya think? What an assortment of livebearers and what a way to start, good quality stock. You got more tanks, you are hooked bad! Well, payback for hooking us on goldfish. j/k lol
Now that you know what you've got for fish, this is Kat today, everyone. We won't be seeing too much of her, I'm thinking. Between reading andhttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_13_3.gif searching the Internet finding all sorts of facts and strainshttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_9_10.gif, our little Miss Mod will be quite busy.

I just tried taking pictures and so far no one feels like cooperating. Even the mollies seemed miffed at the moment. I did give them a small water change and added a bit of salt and I swear they were rejoicing even though the params were fine.

They do take a little while to settle down. Not sure who you put where but they'll probably feel more comfortable if they have a few plants to hide among.

Melody's shipment- 10 gallon/seeded sponge filter full of plastic tacky plants, river rocks and a cave for the cories to hide in.
LFS fish seperate 10 gallon/seeded sponge filter- filled with tacky plastic plants as well.
When I was in Florida last Walmart had a huge sale on 18 inch plastic plants. $3 a piece I bought tons lol. They are ugly as all get out but work in a pinch, especially in my dark basement.

LFS Sail Fin, he was swimming around with his newfound harem happily until I showed up then he dropped to the bottom but then puffed up like a peacock. If you look at the top right there's a female black sword and a pregnant sail fin. Good thing BBS is on the way!

Oooooh very nice fishies indeed! Your LFS Sailfin problably saw you as a threat to his harem...lol.
Spike is a female... (still young so still could be a late blooming male... they do that sometimes) so maybe Ms. Spike...lol.
<3 2Female's? Is the one on the right pregnant? Or just shapely?
One on left is definitely a female. The one on right looks like it could be a male... tough to tell when you can't really see the anal fin properly.

You have a pair of Platy's - the one with the big dorsal is the male (it will get longer as he ages). The smallest Swordtail will either be a lyre or hifin. The larger red Swordtail that I don't see in these pic's, was almost definitly going to be a lyre (the gono is almost as long as he is already...lol....a sure sign of a lyre.)
The Hifin male Platy is a cross between a greenish blue Hifin Variatus and a redtail white Hifin Maculatus Platy. The blue/mauve female Hifin Platy is mostly variatus, and of unknown heritage.
Love your male Sailfin!
Beautiful pic's!

The red Swordtails were from a selective breeding tank. Daddy is a beaut of a Pineapple male with an awesome hifin that you can see if you look close enough, and Mama is one of the many females he entertained.

The larger sword is a total scardey cat and hides a lot. I did see him wiggling around on the sponge filter today, the swords are funny little characters. The naponesis are much better this evening zipping around. Yep saw the gono suspected a boy. I love those platy's.

Yup, pineapples have been around for a long time. Mine was a bonus fish from Charles on an order and I like his yellow colour density most, which of course, hasn't come through in the offspring yet  . I just got some new Hifin Neon females that have an awesome base on the dorsal, nice and wide, so I'm putting him on those to improve the thickness of the dorsal. Hifin Swordtails have some lovely length to the dorsal, but its always too narrow & thin looking. The orient is producing some that are nothing short of breathtaking - you may have seen them on Aquabid. I've seen a lot of fish in my time, but they made the oldest of veterans stop right up short and say "WOW!"
