You just fill it up with filter media (floss, carbon, coral, whatever you choose). It needs an air pump. The airstone is included. You can get big bags of quilt batting at Walmart for around $5 to use as filter floss and it lasts forever. I like them for q-tanks or for when I have to increase or lower my pH.

The valve lets you control the airflow for fry tanks and you can use it to split one pump between two tanks.

Awesome deal...If it didn't cost so darn much to ship. The gang valve alone goes for $8 around here.
